According to Production Manager Aerienne Russell, CicLAvia events have been held since 2010 and aim to give people a space to go outdoors.
“The mission of that is to give folks a place to recreate outdoors, whether that’s biking, walking, et cetera,” Russel said.

CicLAvia events also have a considerable impact on air quality. According to 2015 study by UCLA, these events reduce ultra-fine particles on CicLAvia streets by 21% and 12% on streets still open to traffic.

Five miles of Sherman Way between Shoup Ave. and Lindley Ave. were closed off to cars from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., which allowed people to walk, cycle, skate or jog on streets that would normally be occupied by cars.
