The Medbed idea resembles the alien "sarcophagus" from the movie/t.v. show, "Stargate". (1994) The concept probably goes way further back in sci-fi. Twenty years ago was "Idiocracy". Ten years ago was "The Martian". He's probably brainstorming how to save Matt Damen right now.
