Visit to my Mums in North London. She does like her Foxes and this splendid individual seems to like her. Very chilled

Early WeBS count of a new WeBS Worcestershire site at Longdon Heath south of Upton upon Severn. Certainly qualifies as a high priority site in winter with important numbers of wildfowl & Lapwing (c400 -1000). 4 Pintail, c200 Teal, c100 Wigeon, 2 Shelduck & high nos common Geese #worcsbirds

That’s a good start to the year and a new species for the garden just. Spring Usher on the wall next to the trap. Probably came in from the park where there are a lot of mature Oaks 👌 VC37 #teammoth

First visit of the year to the marvellous Upper Hollowfields Farm. The Blackthorn hedges full of winter thrushes - probably 200 each of Fieldfare & Redwing. Also 4 Bullfinch recorded, Reed Bunting & c50 Chaffinch. A cursory look for Brown Hairstreak eggs also successful #worcsbirds

Brilliant! Why any right minded person still supports that cesspit is beyond me

The International Swan Census takes place this weekend, 17-18 January. If you record any Bewick's or Whooper Swans in BirdTrack, we would greatly appreciate if you could add details on the number of adults and juveniles, habitat and location pinpoint #ukbirding

A Coal Tit to add to my Upton Warren year list was the most exciting this morning! 4 Pochard nice to see at the Moors. Nothing at the Flashes probably due to people bashing about at the sewage works. #worcsbirds

One Purple Sandpiper at Battery Point, Portishead at lunchtime. Tide being out probably hid a few more lower down. Also 3 Rock Pipit #glosbirds

3 Penduline Tit showing well at Aust Wetlands at times all in the same scope view #glosbirds

Any Worcs birders fancy this site? The next count date is 18th January. Winter counts for this site are especially important to get into WeBS for Worcestershire. Go on, you know you want to 😁 Link in Bio #worcsbirds
1/2 A new site for counting for WeBS which I’ve generically called Longdon Heath but is essentially the flooded fields & wet grassland south of Upton upon Severn, site of the recent influx of White fronted & Bean Geese. Also good no’s of wildfowl in winter so important to get the data #worcsbirds

📉Bewick's Swan numbers in NW/NE Europe are declining. Would you like to help us continue to monitor Bewick's (and Whooper Swans) through participating in the International Swan Census this weekend? See more information: www.bto.org/gsmp-isc
📉 Our new paper shows Bewick’s Swan numbers in NW/NE Europe have fallen to ~12,900 birds - a 56.7% decline since 1995, with further losses predicted by 2026 unless survival or breeding success improves. Flyway-wide conservation is urgent. 🦢 Download paper > tidsskrift.dk/Wildfowl/art... #Ornithology

First proper moth trap of the year at Upton Warren VC37 (with Trust consent) produced just two moths, both Agonopterix heracliana accepted by iRecord although should probably have its nadgers examined. Still feels too early for trapping so trap mothballed (see what I did there) #teammoth

Ringed Neck Duck at Clifton this morning. Still on North Pit but distant, here with handy comparison to Tufted Duck! Also pair Pintail, Barnacle Goose, 8 Pochard & good numbers of Wigeon and Teal #worcsbirds

Pretty spooky if you don’t know what it is, a bit unnerving when you do know! Yesterday morning at @worcswt.bsky.social Chaddesley Woods. Bird wise quiet other than a nice large flock of Redpoll (c60) with a few Siskin - a good looking ‘Mealy’ amongst them, sadly no longer tickable #worcsbirds

The best of Trev - an hours worth of watching some #mothing action is time well spent! Going to try myself tonight and the next couple of days with the mild temperatures. Spring Usher very much on my wish list #teammoth youtu.be/rH3gb13gHzc?...

Whooper Swan at Moors Upton Warren nice to see. Mainly sleeping so must have been a bit of a journey! Still present at mid day #worcsbirds
January 10, 2026 at 12:16 PM
Back in the day at Upton Warren there was a species prediction list which I stumbled on in the Bird Forum thread from July 2014. Quite a few of these have now been realised & underscores Upton Warrens relevance still. Probably an idea to start a new list. Not sure who won the prize tho! #worcsbirds

Shoveler ‘pinwheeling’ at the Moors, Upton Warren this morning. Haven’t seen that behaviour for a while, nor that many Shoveler there either tbf! #worcbirds

Another walk in the Cotswolds today. 7 miles around Moreton-in-Marsh. Beautiful villages but largely bird-less countryside. I’ve done the Cotswold Way twice. The odd Red Kite, Woodland birds & maybe a Yellowhammer but not a single Lapwing, Curlew, Grey Partridge - a farmland bird desert #ukbirding
