Die Charles Michiels blijkt een "kornetvirtuoos" te zijn en leefde al minstens sinds 1884 in de eilandstaat. Dat jaar stichte hij de band van de Saint Louis School in Honolulu en hij trad op met zijn echtgenote. Bovendien lijkt hij verbonden te zijn geweest aan de Belgische Legatie in het land.5/6
