I’ve been reading this one, it’s a history of Henry VIII’s fleet and it’s very interesting. I knew Henry was quite keen on his ships, but there are a lot of fascinating details that I didn’t know about.

Went to see Gladiator 2 tonight. Obviously, not accurate at all, but that doesn’t matter. I enjoyed it, it was good. It was an incredible spectacle.

Just discovered one of my favourite harsh judgements in a history book, from “Black Redcoats” by Matthew Taylor (heartily recommended!):

“A prolific writer of panicked missives to superiors and subordinates, Brigadier General Winder was an opponent that an invading force would wish to face.”
