Ouch! Ever suffer for fashion?

Pointed toe shoes have been all the rage (...the painful rage) for centuries. Called "poulaines" or "cracows," this pointy style of footwear was mostly seen on men.

What do you think, time for them to make a comeback?

4. Stay hydrated!

More than any other threat, thirst was the greatest danger to travelers. To avoid it, Grataroli suggests avoiding salty foods and not talking too much.

Yappers need not apply.

3. Don't overeat!

Whether on horseback or in a wagon, you’re in for a bumpy ride. Eat too much and you may regret it. 🤢

2. Don't forget the trail mix!

Nuts, hard candy, and cookies all made Grataroli’s list of good portable snacks.

1. Don't sample the local cuisine!

Pack your own provisions whenever possible—that includes water.

Long before fast food joints along the highway or coolers full of snacks, eating on the go could be pretty complicated!

📖 In a 1556 book, medieval physician Gugliermo Grataroli instructed his fellow travelers on how to stay healthy on the go.

Here are four of his tips:
The Temperate and the Intemperate, a painting showing medieval folks eating in a tavern. Half of the clientele is politely eating at a neat table. The other half are drunkenly slouched over a rumpled tablecloth. They are also dressed in more humble clothes.
