This was twinned with a desire to (like so many other fantasy authors before me) put my own twist on the classic, Tolkien-esque epic fantasy adventure, and to combine it with my love of grounded character drama.

Hi! Thanks for asking. Worth of Scars mostly came from two elements. First was an incredibly dark magic system I dreamt (or maybe nightmare-d?) up involving self-mutilating sorcerers and the interesting (if grisly) themes that arose from that.

With that being said, I really enjoyed episode 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The novella it's based on is very near and dear to me, and the show looks very much like doing the original justice.
