Besides this, the Court also praised the UNESCO Global Toolkit on AI and the Rule of Law as a robust source of guidance for judges and called for the development of AI Guidelines for the Judiciary.

1️⃣ AI can assist but not replace judges. Rulings must reflect human legal reasoning to uphold fair trial guarantees.

2️⃣ Transparency and explainability are essential. Courts should disclose if and how AI is used, ensuring individuals can understand and challenge decisions.

In my view, two takeaways were especially important for the policy conversation on AI in the administration of justice since they shine a light on how misuses of AI can lead to decisions being overturned with basis on the right to a fair trial.
