Very nice. I need to get back to that area at some point.

I (mostly) retired around the time when I planned to. But given different circumstances my calendar might have shifted.

The story as I heard it was that, through a long naming process, Avion popped to the top but there were trademark issues. As far as I know (as the product manager), there was no truth to the NOVAii thing and I had no idea until an engineer stopped me in the hall. Doesn't mean an exec didn't notice.

There were some prior mixed case examples earlier but they really took off around that id/late 90s point.

Not that I take the full credit/blame for creating it, but AViiON certainly was a significant early example.

I don’t have solar but my rebuild is pretty much 100% led though I had been switching over anyway. And a far bit of insulation was done. My monthly bill is down quite a bit. And it hasn’t been really cold yet.

I have Apple TV+ because it's part of my Apple subscription package (and also have Amazon Prime). Need to take a hard look at Netflix vs. a couple of the more secondary services. Can always buy a la carte of course if I really want something.

With the current price and offerings, Netflix is definitely on the bubble for me. It does have some content I want but not sure it's worth it for the amount of video I watch.

High school geometry and I didn't get along for whatever reason.

The watch (and AirPods) have been more successful than a lot thought they would be. AR is another obvious direction but it's a really hard problem. Possible to imagine fully realized AR but a lot needs to happen to get there. And, as you suggest, incrementalism: processor/camera has come a long way.

Give them flashlights. And,yes, I've had that much energy at the end of the day. Mind you, I'm semi-retired now so I don't care that much even if I'd rather be DST given how far east in a time zone I am.

There do seem to be some bulbs for lava lamps on Amazon. I should check my lamps and probably buy at least a couple while they're still available :-)

That's probably around when I got mine because that's the timeframe I bought my house and I don't think I had them in my apartment.

I have a couple though I haven't turned on in ages. (And don't know if I could get the appropriate bulbs for them at this point.)

I loved the characters. But a lot of the plots took tremendous suspension of disbelief especially the more extreme cowboys in space themes.

IBM has done pretty well too over the past couple of years. Glad I held onto some of my latter stock grants rather than immediately selling.

I have an account. I sort of lost interest but may take another look.

I still have Twitter in a tab but rarely look at it. Bluesky seems the best option these days unless you need Twitter for some reason.

There's no small number of senior ex-Red Hat folks at SUSE these days.

You see the large (mostly flightless) avians and you have to wonder why paleontologists didn't draw the connection earlier. I guess it's because of the image of dinosaurs as these large lumbering beasts was hard to shed.

I remember traveling in Newfoundland. You'd walk through graveyards with stones that had multiple 5 year olds dying at the same age.

That doesn't mean capacitors are suited for storing large energy loads.
September 3, 2025 at 2:39 AM
See RC circuit :-)
September 3, 2025 at 2:39 AM
Depends on the circuit design. While you're making my brain explode, I think, as I recall, basically higher resistances can slow the discharge rate of the capacitor significantly. In at least one product I was familiar with, a low current capacitor did effectively server as a battery.
