As noted in other posts, the college has been badly renovating many old buildings it owns as part of a “sustainability” initiative. The work is badly misguided and wish someone would/could intervene. A really fine Greek Revival house was just wrecked this past week.

White’s studio’s photographs are in the NYPL (see digitalcollections.nypl.org/collections/...). One website site notes that “for twenty-years from 1905 to 1925 White Studio was Broadway's foremost photographer of stage production."

I figured out the White connection (apparently orherwise unknown) from the 1918 Sanborn that shows a photography studio and then checked that against the deeds to see who owned it at the time.

They even ripped off cornice that made the pediment

Nothing written about the house mentions the enslaved people, not even the town’s #historicpreservation page, just Otis because of his famous “taxation without representation is tyranny” quip and the fact that he apparently was killed by lightning on the doorstep. Only the doorstep was saved.
