A recommendation for #booksky. Berman succinctly and cogently puts together the history of minority rule starting in the founding, but then focuses on Trump 1/Biden. However, though the epilogue includes some success stories, finishing this book left me a little overwhelmed. We need to know this!

My dissertation data collection is kicking my butt but today is beautiful because my signed copy of Lawless by @leahlitman.bsky.social came today! Thank you to Politics and Prose for letting a huge fangirl of @strictscrutiny.bsky.social support independent bookstores at the same time as Leah!

I had a fantastic time presenting from my chapter in "Building Civic Futures" vol. 1 at #AERA2025. Unfortunately, 2 intl grad students who should have been there were not for their safety. It is bittersweet to love what was shared, but know what was missed - and what will be missed in the future.

If you want a quick, comprehensive explanation of why fascism comes for history and education, this is a must read. I got it from the library and didn't make it a chapter before I bought my own copy. Plenty of intl examples that provide context for our time. #booksky

Intensely in my feelings about how well my teacher workshop went at NCHE 2025. My dream with my research is that it inspires others and helps the real teachers doing the work!

Despite the subject matter and the dark & depressing realities it relates, this book was also somehow a good time. I appreciated the dark humor that broke up the hard stuff. I could recommend more fact-filled books, but Lavin has written an engaging narrative that covers the broad strokes. #booksky

Despite wind and snow, we stood with @standupforscience.bsky.social today!

This title is wildly going to change based on feedback and the times, but let it be known I have a dissertation proposal that went into the world today. Now, we begin the work.

Had a great time at NCTEAR 2025 presenting about the power of collaboration in data analysis. Everything is better with @meghanwhitfield.bsky.social!

Action calls for strategy! @meghanwhitfield.bsky.social and I are at a conference out of state, but we planned ahead for this as much as possible. We hope you'll join us!

An extremely thorough and *human* look at those who wanted Roe's fall, and those who didn't. It also showcases the inactivity and unpreparedness of Democrats, which is an unfortunate conversation we're still having. I haven't read anything else this comprehensive on the topic. #booksky

Well, @democracyprof.bsky.social's new one is what counts as comfort reading for me right now. Brettschneider notes that "the presidency has always been a loaded gun" and that was before the immunity decision. America is an experiment, and this book shows it's just our turn to do the work. #booksky

Finally finished one! I enjoyed Montell's "Cultish" since the focus on linguistics is up my alley but it felt new and interesting. This type of psychology book has been a theme for me lately, so this quicker dive didn't have much new for me. Worth it for those who don't want something more academic!

This book helped me wrap my mind around seemingly illogical conversations and my visceral and unproductive reactions. It also debunks some common misunderstandings of demographic data that draw lines that are not as firm as one thinks. Better understanding leads to more productive conversations!

First book of 2025 complete and it was incredible. I first heard an interview with the author on @strictscrutiny.bsky.social and immediately put the audiobook on hold at my library. The mix between the legal, historical, and personal in so compelling and important. Highly recommend!
