Semantic drift is common with any term of sufficient age.

However I would argue that the common factor within all populist definitions is that it’s primarily a stand against something.

And that the “something” is usually an engineered problem.

I believe the original study that forms the basis of the research was a comparison between MDI and DPI, with DPI being much lower. (1kg per device vs 28kg per device)

That was the extent of it.

To show that a dry powder inhaler has about the same carbon footprint as a variety 12 pack of crisps.

I believe that all streaming platforms should have a calibration tool like the old THX Laserdisc.

Sure most people wouldn't use it, but for those who like to ensure they're watching in the best possible quality, it would be invaluable.

And would take up hardly any space on the platfrom.

But that's something that will now end as again there's a pretty basic trust issue

What I will say though is that it's a personal choice about where I spend my money and the type of companies I wish to support, it's a freedom we all share

And is way more powerful than "personal abuse and threats"

Never bought a book written by Moses, it's a personal choice, I just the think the guy has always been a bit of a problematic dick and I try not to support people I can't trust.

I have bought stuff from Bitmap Books though, because they publish a lot of stuff by people I do love and respect.

Dear supporters of Bitmap Books,

Although I stand by the fact that Moses’ comments were ill-advised and insensitive, the whole thing blew up and was made much bigger than it needed to be. Moses has publicly apologised for any offence caused, as has the original poster of the comments who did not intend to cause this much trouble. I do not feel that this warrants an author losing his livelihood and ruining years of hard work to produce the book.

Despite multiple accusations to the contrary, Moses freely agreed to donate his royalties to charity. There was no coercion from me, however we both recognise that due to an increasingly stressful situation that decisions were rushed on both sides. I’m pleased to say that Moses and I have spoken again today, we stand together, and have agreed that he will receive 100% of his royalties.

Maybe I was hasty in my response, and I’m happy to admit to that. At the time I sincerely thought I was doing the right thing to diffuse an increasingly difficult situation. I will commit to donating all company profits from this first print run to the charity, Special Effect.

The bottom line is that is that Moses has apologised for his original comments, and will now be paid the royalties that are rightfully his.

Moses and myself have received a large amount of personal abuse and threats over the past few days. We hope that this statement will bring some closure to what has happened.

I find it remarkable that Retro Gamer (in its original form) was launched 8 months before the final issue of C&VG came out after 22 years and 8 months of publication.

So we’re just over a year away (December 2026) of Retro Gamer having been in print for longer than C&VG was.

I feel old.
