Home from a little trip to Herefordshire and a parcel!! The Eights by @JoannaMAuthor recommended by @bertsbooks to add to a book of murderous cats from Castle Bookshop , Ludlow and two Christmas romcoms from Gay On Wye in Hay-on-Wye of course plus my Bert’s Secret Santa book! #booksworthreading
December 12, 2025 at 2:35 PM
I went into the wittily named Gay on Wye bookshop and bought a ‘Cool Kids Read Books’ neon light for my library @gardeninNorway

Hay on Wye is deep into Christmas with decorated shop windows…a 91 year old lady, I talked to her granddaughter, created all these….On the 1st Day of Christmas….they are all there! @gardeninNorway

A golden post box in Hay on Wye which means a 2012 Olympian lives in the town…topped, for Christmas, with pigs in blankets! A very British Christmas food! @gardeninNorway
December 11, 2025 at 7:10 PM
This path along the Wye is part of Offa’s Dyke, built by a Dark Ages King to keep the Britons out of Mercia…Steve, who hates poobags, and Dan, his son who I met, have decorated it for Christmas…Offa may not be pleased! @gardeninNorway

I like to go and have a look at the beautiful River Wye that Hay is on…like a lot of rivers in the U.K. atm it’s very full of water making up for the long, hot, dry summer we had…@gardeninNorway

Richard Booth’s bookstore lives on after his death in this beautiful building in the town. @gardeninNorway
December 11, 2025 at 7:02 PM
Views over Hay on Wye from the castle terrace…from the first book shop, there are dozens across the town appearing in unlikely places @gardeninNorway
December 11, 2025 at 6:58 PM
Richard Booth lived in Hay on Wye Castle, part of which was given over to selling books in his time…the parties, apparently, were legendary until the castle burned…restored, I had my breakfast there this morning @gardeninNorway

A day in Hay on Wye, just over the border into Wales. Once a quiet country town that had seen better days it was turned into the world’s first ‘Booktopolis’ by the efforts of Richard Booth, who declared himself ‘King of Hay’…@gardeninNorway

Lastly! A trip to the Whisky Distillery on the edge of town to stock up for Christmas @gardeninNorway
December 10, 2025 at 5:36 PM
I spotted this artist designed Christmas trees around Ludlow @gardeninNorway
December 10, 2025 at 5:33 PM
Had lunch in the Rose and Crown, a pub that has been on this sight since 1102! Poor Prince Arthur would have seen the building but couldn’t buy his own drink! @gardeninNorway

Poor Prince Arthur, who never got to do the business and died, aged 15, had his heart buried in St Lawrence’s Church (they have no idea where it actually is) and the rest of him is in Worcester Cathedral. Poor lad! He didn’t have a lot of luck @gardeninNorway
December 10, 2025 at 5:25 PM
St. Lawrence’s Church is a grand church that reflects the town’s wealth over the centuries…it’s still a prosperous place @gardeninNorway

More pictures of Ludlow Market and the town Christmas tree @gardeninNorway
December 10, 2025 at 5:20 PM
The River Teme helped keep the troublesome Welsh out of Ludlow Castle…we’ve hd a lot of rain recently and it would do a good job of doing the same this morning @gardeninNorway
December 10, 2025 at 5:17 PM
This is Ludlow Castle…Catherine of Aragon was sent here with her 15 yo husband, Prince Arthur, on honeymoon. He got the Sweating Sickness and died before he could do the business so she went on to marry his brother, HenryVIII…that didn’t end well either @gardeninNorway
December 10, 2025 at 5:14 PM
Thought you might like to see some of my pre Christmas trip to Ludlow and Hay on Wye… a nice calm couple of days before all the Christmas 🎄 fun…this is the market place in Ludlow… @gardeninNorway
December 10, 2025 at 5:11 PM
It’s that time of year….the Christmas 🎄 edition of the Radio Times, some Mince Pies, a cup of tea and a pen to star all the things I’d like to watch over the festive season…

While I’m here can I put in a word for ‘Our Evenings’ by Alan Hollinghurst… a wonderful read about the life of a half English/Burmese boy making his way through late 20th/early 21st century England..compelling, moving and I shed a tear..finished just this week…a brilliant read. #bookswoethreading

Just started a good Advent read ‘The Christmas Cracker Killer’ by @ak_benedict a signed copy courtesy of @bertsbooks #booksworthreading #booksky #books #booktok

Just finished a batch of handmade Chocolate Mint Truffles dusted with Icing Sugar that are going into the fridge to firm up…they are delicious but when I say ‘handmade’ they really are, rubbed between my scrupulously clean hands…will redust them later…
December 6, 2025 at 3:47 PM
First attempt at some Gold Dusted Chocolate Mincemeat (for non U.K. readers it doesn’t contain meat) Truffles to be given to friends at Christmas. I think I’ll make them smaller for the gift bags…will taste them later, the centre mixture was delicious.
