I am beyond excited and incredibly proud to share that our work is now out in @nature.com This discovery was made possible thanks to the first author Kostas kelepouras, my fantastic lab , and the unique research environment here in Cologne in collaboration with the Hospital bambino Gesu in Rome.

The STING of death continues!
Thanks to @natrevrheum.nature.com (doi.org/10.1038/s415... & rdcu.be/eJjhl ) for highlighting our recent @nature.com paper (doi.org/10.1038/s415...) cell death inhibition as a therapy for autoinflammatory diseases (SAVI)

Our work shows that STING triggers ZBP1-mediated necroptosis independently of TNFR1 and FADD. Inhibiting necroptosis prevents STING-associated vasculopathy with onset in infancy (SAVI), paving the way for cell death inhibition as a therapeutic strategy for STING-driven inflammatory diseases

In my lab we are interested in understanding how aberrant activation of cell death & inflammation drive loss of tissue homeostasis and how genetic instability contributes to the loss of this balance. If you are interested in discussing this topic, joining our lab or collaborate please let me know.
