The Trump administration's shotgun approach is a lot to deal with.

Overall I think white supremacy, totalitarianism, transphobia, misogyny, etc. are equally/more important. But I don't have the resources to shotgun-oppose all this, so I'm just trying to focus where I have the most insight.

*Amplify positive, suppress negative.*
We are all concerned about negatives/dangers/loss, and attracted to positives/benefits. But it can be hard to tell what is truly negative or positive. Celebrate new triumphs as well as avoiding disasters to feel like a winner.

Individuals and corporations alike stepped in to help those in need, from fresh apps to locate missing people, to tables of free stock provided by the grocery store. I assume the government is also helping.

There is a live Nobel laureate discussion with Q/A next week, about federal research funding, check the link to register.

"Beyond the Headlines: The Invisible Power of Academic Research in
America"
Tuesday, July 1
1-3pm PDT

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Beyond the Headlines: The Invisible Power of Academic Research in America. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.
Behind nearly every breakthrough in medicine, technology, national security, and economic growth lies a powerful, but often overlooked, engine: academic research. This webinar sheds light on that story, featuring Nobel Laureates Randy Schekman and Charles Rice in conversation with a panel of distinguished experts. Due to scheduling conflicts, Nobel Laureates David Julius and Torsten Wiesel, along with leading scholars including Stephen Palumbi (Stanford), David Patterson (UC Berkeley), and others, will share their insights through recorded video messages. Together, these voices will underscore the vital role of federally funded university research in maintaining America’s global leadership in science and innovation. The discussion will explore the long-standing partnership between the federal government and U.S. research universities, a collaboration that drives discovery, serves the public good, and shapes the nation’s future, often without due recognition. We will take live questions from our Designated Questioners, including Los Angeles Times education reporter Jaweed Kaleem and GSM Professor Elizabeth G. Pontikes, as well as from the Zoom and YouTube chat audiences. Join us as we bring this vital and too often untold story out of the shadows and into public view.

AAS also has a contact-representatives page, which lets you toggle between sending them emails or calling them one after the other.

I've been told that calling is more effective. Now I can use AAS to do it instead of the Protect Public Media form !! […]

I heard this interview on the radio about the "diploma divide," and I think this is why NASA is currently doomed.

Wiping out science scores political points with voters who feel excluded from the activities of the educated elites. It doesn't matter if the elites are motivated by increasing […]

At OPAG they said that calling Congress is more meaningful than emailing them.
I found a tool that automates dialing your 2 senators and your congressional rep. It's great for lazy people who don't mind their info getting harvested:

https://protectmypublicmedia.org/rsc-calls
## Urge Congress: Save Public Media **Public media is facing its most immediate and serious threat yet.** The Administration sent Congress a rescissions package that would claw back $1.1 billion in public media funding already approved by law. If enacted, this action would instantly destabilize local public radio and TV stations nationwide. **This isn’t a distant threat. Congress could act very quickly. Send a message now urging your Members of Congress to vote against rescinding public media funding.** **Use our patch-through calling system to urge your Members of Congress to vote against rescinding public media funding.** After entering your information, click “Call Your Lawmakers.” A blue screen with talking points will appear. Scroll down and click the button again to initiate the call. You will receive a call from 202-335-6941, which will connect you with each congressional office. If you have trouble connecting through the call patch, you can look up your Members of Congress directly at Congress.gov by entering your address, and use the talking points in the blue box. **Clawing back this funding – about $1.60 per person each year – wouldn’t just force stations to scale back – it would dismantle essential services that countless communities count on.** From life-saving emergency alerts to local reporting and storytelling, and educational resources that support families, job seekers and teachers – these services exist because public media is committed to serving everyone, regardless of income or zip code. In many rural and underserved areas, the loss could be total. Stations could shut down entirely, leaving entire communities without access to trusted, essential information. **Most Americans stand with public media.** In fact, a recent Pew Research Center poll found they’re nearly twice as likely to support continued federal funding as oppose it. Now it’s our job to speak up and make sure Congress gets the message:**clawing back support from local stations would leave communities less safe, children less prepared for school, and all of us less connected. We won’t let that happen.** ▸**Trouble connecting your call?** If you have trouble connecting through the call patch, you can look up your Members of Congress directly at Congress.gov by entering your address. Please feel free to use the following talking points when placing your call: _Hi, my name is**[NAME]**. I live in **[TOWN, CITY, STATE]**._ _I’m calling to urge**[LAWMAKER NAME]** to vote NO on the rescissions package that would claw back already approved public media funding – and to support continued level public media funding in Fiscal Year 2026._ _This funding keeps our community safe, informed, and supported – powering emergency alerts, local information, and free educational resources that help children thrive._ _Rescinding funding would force our local stations to cut essential services, or even go off-air entirely._ _Please protect our local public media stations. Vote against rescinding public media funding._ _Thank you._ Please note all form fields are required by congressional offices. Share ## More Ways To Take Action
