I had no idea this was how kids are "learning" to read these days. My school-teacher mom taught me to "sound it out" -- aka, phonics, then spell it correctly, etc. I was reading "Little Golden Books" voraciously before I even got to Kindergarten. Why do we have to break everything in this country?
