I gotcha. Im sorry I misunderstood what you were saying. As far as im aware, there isnt a native way to do it in godot with one node. I did get a version working with 2 subviewport containers that doesnt use any scripts for it (if youre curious)

Putting it as a child of the viewport fixes the pixel issue, but changing the scaling would reduce the size it renders at so youd get blurring anyway. I think what youre going for is the 3d to be low res but the ui to be high res, correct?

After copying what you have, it looks like its caused from a double filtering effect. The viewport renders the camera, then the filtering is applied again to the render texture where the pixels are uneven in size.

I thought output scaling was after rendering of 2d and 3d in most cases (i dont actually know). Regardless, it looks like in godot they behave similar regardless of 2d or 3d scaling

I didnt realize that it made it blurry (I dont use it that often) but i turned off generate mipmaps and it sharpened up

Dont scope too big now (: some things can be deceptively simple. Hope to see what godot shenanigans you get up to

No problem, what kind of games do you think you'd like to make?

No problem, if you are looking for a tool for pixel art, there is aseprite that most reccomend. However there is also a pixel art tool made in godot called pixelorama (its free)

Also is a good reference for how to scale out larger projects

What helped me get into Godot was a channel called heartbeast

He keeps things simple and provides the art so you can focus more on learning the engine rather than everything in one go.

For pixel art, I always find myself watching a this person for tips

I might have 2 more cool feature for ya:

1. Ctrl+D duplicates the selected node
2. Godot Script panel supports multi-line editing. I have mine set to ctrl+alt+up/down (Im not sure if thats the default)

No problem, if each of your scenes are the same size, you could just put them next to eachother in a grid like a 3d binding of issac using wave function collapse youtu.be/QC2rKo-1FKw?...
