Film producer Irwin Winkler claims that Steve McQueen was supposed to star in THE SPLIT instead of BULLITT. Winkler offered the lead role to McQueen, who wanted to do it, was ready to sign, but pulled out at the last minute to work on the 1968 Peter Yates film #SteveMcQueen #Bullitt
