As a non-native English speaker, I've been using "navigating", "not just...but", and the construction with "merely" for years. I abhor AI-language, but I do think we need to be careful not to take the presence of these expressions now automatically as proof of an AI-generated text

It turns out that protecting hate speech did not create the conditions to protect other kinds of speech; instead, it protected hate and allowed hate movements to take over all the institutions of that might have defended the rest of us.

Has anyone had some experience with letting students make annotated pdfs in part as a way to prevent them from just relying on AI summaries? There are always in class discussions, and there will be a kind of oral exam as well.
