Awfulness turducken where the base crime is the most monstrous thing, but they're adding a layer of both cheating and corrupting a public resource to find a uniquely distasteful way to make gambling on men's lives even more disgusting.

Again, it is not an unreasonable demand to put a maximum speed on the road set at a level that ensures the general safety by recognizing that thousands of different drivers will be operating large vehicles moving at high speeds. If it's set too low, lobby for a change in regulations.

Most meals I eat aren't made to the standards of a commercial kitchen, and I haven't died. I still expect anybody who makes food for the general public to follow the rules and regulations of the food code, which includes penalties if chefs don't wash their hands as long and as often as required.

The speed limit is an eminently reasonable restriction to ensure the general safety of the public and people who show a consistent and willful disregard towards it should face penalties because that's part of the social contract. It's not life and death if you don't speed; you can drive 60.

Have you never heard of an accidental shooting? Man irresponsibly handling a gun drops it, it discharges, but nobody got shot, so... I suppose there's no reason for him not to keep carrying a gun around.

Real sophistry has to look at what language does, if the speaker can actually make the weaker case the stronger, it's strong evidence for the power of their speech. But if all he does is get to be Bluesky's Main Character, he has all the rhetorical skill of a can of beans.

To go all Rhetoric Professor here, this is basically Adoxography, elegant writing for a base subject, in the tradition of Gorgias's Defense of Helen. The real problem with Azizi's take is that it has no stakes: he "wins" if he makes people mad, which is basically the easiest thing in the world.

That's really the point, isn't it? If his point wasn't dumb as hell, it wouldn't show off his rhetorical talent to make you think, even partially, that maybe he has a point. It takes no skill to defend the correct take, but defending a stupid take is a sign of his mastery.

Honestly, for the third one, the Detroit municipal government might already have experience with that kind of situation at home. For reasons of "Because" if nothing else.

I think this one conveys the efficiency of Onion headlines, quick setup and punchline all wrapped up perfectly. It's also the one I think of when I see real headlines that are just weird enough to make me check that it's not the Onion.

I remember reading about how shaken Michelle Obama, a woman who was no stranger to racism, was when she first got a Secret Service briefing on credible threats to her children. I really wonder what sort of briefings Usha Vance has been given and what it's been like for her to receive them.

You wonder what things would have looked like if he had lost in 2016, like Michael Flynn and others seemed to be planning on, and transitioned into becoming a media personality. Would he still be gunning for a rematch in 2020 or would he transition into being a culture commentator?

Rogue 1 is a testimony that a great opening and a solid ending can cover a whole host of issues in the middle.

I was rooting for Cersei, but it was because I wanted her to win as mostly an accident of history after her enemies exhausted each other and then get written into the record by Westeros Shakespeare as a brilliant and noble Queen. That felt like the most Game of Thrones ending.

That profile pic makes me think we're talking about the political opinions of a woman who has unironically done the Naruto run.

"Bubba" is also generic porn slang for a man who performs violent homosexual acts. "Say hi to Bubba for me" is a euphemism for "I hope you get raped in prison." It makes me think there's not a real photo that Epstein's referencing, just a homophobic insult because he's pissed at Trump.
