Hm. Figured it could be a possibility. I can currently refinance at 5.5% and with points can get it down to 5%.

A lot of hard right American catholics have always been able to say "that's just a bad translation of this fairly benign thing the pope didn't mean."

It will be very interesting going forward to see how they react when he's speaking in clear, unequivocal English.

We're a two car family. We've basically landed on the sweet spot being that our second car is a full EV we lease (to protect against the crazy pants depreciation). Primary car is currently a hybrid SUV that gets 38mpg. Next primary car will likely be a plug-in hybrid now that we have a home charger.

we charge our hyundai ioniq 5 around once every two to three weeks at a muncipal charger and i’d say it runs about $9 for 250 miles of range.

My mom was from Suffolk and used to tell stories about how when she was young her accent seemed super distinct from other "southern" accents, almost Canadian sounding. This accurately captures that Tidewater difference from the rest of Virginia.

I mean, for almost two decades we stopped singing "take me out to the ballgame" and instead started singing "god bless America" and "be sure to support your troops." Even if unintentional, the priming was pretty obvious.

There were multiple SCOTUS cases over the question of whether or not those declared to be "terrorists" had any fundamental rights to due process, and SCOTUS invented a "eh, not really, but maybe" standard throughout because we're allergic to making hard choices.

Hang on. All that is going on right now is the obvious logical extreme of the institutional infrastructure put in place post 9/11. Did Bush always assume even-keeled figures would lead the ship? I guess. But A LOT of people screamed about the potential for abuse the whole time.
