It's not like I can really recommend Le Sang des Bêtes; it's unsimulated slaughterhouse footage. But the directional philosophy influenced Lynch, among others. Violence doesn't end with death, the viewer doesn't get a break when a living being dies. It's not over. There's so much more horror after.

I know it's unfair to compare Terrifier to an immediately post-Holocaust slaughterhouse documentary but like... it really highlights the difference between truly abject violence and stylized violence porno. Franju understood how to fuck up a viewer without any mercy. It will stick with you forever.
