I think it is a trap to frame ideas that are rooted from identity as less productive than those disconnected - and also easier to execute for some people who can view themselves as 'neutral'. I'm glad to try and take lines and notes that are more fruitful (as the original way it was presented has).

I think I can understand the intention, and see the polarization of people and an inability to connect (especially online), but I feel that context collapse and the machinations of increasing profits No Matter What™ are a bigger contributor. While my paraphrased summary doesn't do it justice...

What I found on the essay was something else entirely: "More generally, you can have a fruitful discussion about a topic only if it doesn't engage the identities of any of the participants." and an avocation to not think of yourself as a label so you can "have better ideas".

I've been thinking the last few days about an essay that was recommended to me, Paul Graham's "Keep You Identity Small". It was summarized as 'be careful what you define yourself as, as you will then fit your actions to continue that definition' (I'm always late, I'm bad at ___, etc). However...

While there are MANY things to love about Eastward, I've been enamored with the philosophical fridges, who each have something new to say about the nature of existence and recollection. 💛

More games should include concept art as an unlockable, like a post-credits bonus. Most of the games that I know that have done this have been retro titles and we need to make it more common because it's inspiring and fascinating to see the hidden seams and iterations of a finished work of art.
