The only concern I have with putting solar over parking lots in the snowy north, is how to keep them from periodically dumping their accumulated snow on people going to and from their cars

Minneapolis does something similar, though there are special metal grates around those trees so there's a couple inches of vertical space between the walking surface and the tree area. I think that the sidewalk is slightly sloped to channel water towards the trees

Going forward, there's never going to be a one size fits all battery chemistry. Utility scale storage is going to be the big winner

I'm keeping an eye on sodium batteries. It's important to balance between not letting the perfect get in the way of the better while maintaining the push for improvement

What I'm really hoping is for is a solution that allows a run of the mill ev to serve as a whole house backup. The battery packs are huge and could run a house for days in an outage, then you could just drive to somewhere with power, recharge, and run the house for days more.

Also good for leveraging time of day pricing, and I'm hoping for virtual power plants catch on. Battery prices are dropping rapidly, so it might be worth revisiting in a couple years
