Truth and Beauty
Have to give some props to Brian Armstrong and Coinbase. Their outward brand is that of an Exchange, while every action they’ve taken (but necessarily publicized) is to dominate the Stablecoin market. I wouldn’t be surprised if internally they believe it to be an eventual trillion dollar market.

Drafting the entire Georgia Defense turned out to be a pretty good strategy by Howie

Safe to say Drew Allar will be back for his senior season at Penn State 😬

The implications of Canada/Greenland lust are profound. Autocrats eyeing territories of their own will view this as a green light. (“Even the US wants to expand!”) Except they are likely to use military force. Probability of Israeli annexation and Chinese blockade goes up. Chaos abounds.

The unifying characteristic of Canada and Greenland is that they are the only two countries/territories on the North American continent north of the US. Trump seeks to create a unified continental Anglo-empire. The odds of success seem low, but offers a revealing view into his motivations.

The LA Wildfires is the latest sign (along with the annual hurricane disasters), that large chunks of the country will essentially be unlivable in the next 10-20 years. Insurance costs + danger will simply become prohibitive.

Is there a greater home field advantage in all of sports than a Northeastern team playing an outdoor football game in January against a dome team?

Can someone explain the appeal of Paul Schrader movies? I watched First Reformed and The Card Counter. Don’t understand the critical acclaim for either.

The transfer portal / NIL has permanently changed the SEC. No longer can they monopolize the talent. And increasingly, they are competing against deep pocketed northern rivals who can pay top dollar.

Conventional wisdom might be that Penn State’s chances to win a natty next year are better than this year because Allar will have an extra year of development, but it might be that Tyler Warren (who is graduating) is so good that this year is their best shot.

The only way Penn State gets 5 star recruits like Drew Allar to play for them is by promising them playing time. But then they end up having a 20 year old QB who’s not great playing in a big game instead of a 24 year old QB with 2000 pass attempts like Oregon.

There is a presumption that the next 4 years will be the same as the last 8. While this is a decent bet, there is certainly the possibility of a rather different dynamic at play. The primary differences to consider: a disjointed House, Elon Musk, and a Democratic Party in search of a new identity.

Underdiscussed what an Elon Musk 2028 campaign would look like, and whether it could be successful.

Eagles should sit Saquon for a simple reason: Dickerson set his mark in 16 games. Even Saquon breaks it, there’s an argument to be made that it’s an altogether different (and less impressive, though still extremely impressive) record. That said, they’ll leave up to the man himself, which is good

This is that special time of the NFL season when 6-7 cities across America are all CONVINCED they are going to win the Super Bowl.

Money turns a group of people in a biological machine, with inputs, outputs, and deterministic behaviors. Could be a probabilistic machine too, depending on the circumstances. Since crypto is programmable money, crypto is really the programming language for human-group machines.

Interesting that the public’s general disregard of crypto allows industry players to move wantonly. Coinbase is lobbying to pass a bill to ban all stablecoins that are not 1:1 backed. This essentially outlaws USDT… a direct competitor to USDC, Coinbase’s own product. Kinda crazy.

Am reading “The Story of Art” and at the part where humans (re)discover vaulted ceilings and Gothic architecture. Humans spent A LOT of time, energy, and organization learning to how shape the physical world. It occurred to me that we are now learning how to shape the digital world as well.

Trump has a coalition that is ~75% ethnocentric/xenophobic/social conservatives and ~25% working class. The 25% slice is gettable, motivated by trade, manufacturing. Dems right now are to the right of Trump (and Vance) on trade and war. Need to correct that in ‘28 to win.

A key difference between present day and the Gilded Age: back then, the major conflict was between wealthy corporations and their own workers. Today, the conflict is between wealthy corporations and their own customers. The employees themselves are doing quite well.

If it’s not already obvious, Syria is yet another sign that the Russian war in Ukraine has been an abject disaster for Putin. The Russian state’s ability to project power around the world is severely diminished, and likely will remain so long after the war is over.

Thinking of making a new feed for BlueSky: create connected components of all conversations. Rank in terms of longest weighted path, where weight is something about each post’s engagement. Maybe throw in some other elements to the ranking algo. Call it Top Convos, refresh daily.

Eagles beating Ravens on the road without Devonta Smith is extremely impressive.

It could be that the conflict era we have entered is regionally hot and globally economic i.e smaller military conflicts coupled with large trade and sanction wars.
