The concert included parts of the Nutcracker suite, arranged for mini organ, flugelhorn and finger whistling.

Happy holidays everyone!

Eigenlijk is het misschien tijd voor een soort exil-instituut a la the New School.

What makes this programme unique is the combination of a position at a Flemish university and sufficient project funding to establish their own research team. This symbiosis forms the ideal starting point to attract high level, international research to Flanders.

Try to think of strategies to cut people off in a friendly and gentle manner though. The trick is to be inviting and inclusive but firm.

I try to manage a panel in such a way that people with less status get maximal space and spotlights, while people with more status are contained.

Be very clear to the speakers both up front and during the talk about time management.

Be ruthless in cutting off questions or comments. The panel is for the speakers, and the people asking questions, esp those that take long, usually don't need the attention as much as the presenters. >>

This seminar is online and open for everyone. It is organized by the Beauty and Inequality (BINQ) project, which is most generously funded by an advanced grant of the @erc.europa.eu.

Very sad news, so sorry for your loss Seb. I will remember Paul for his unique combination of intellectual sharpness, perceptiveness, and honesty - not an easy mix I guess but such an important and rare voice to have around.

I have been learning Portuguese with Babbel and like it a lot. Also, it worked: I was in Brazil and had serviceable trave Portuguese after a few months (I speak Spanish, so I had a headstart, but still)

Many thanks to composer-sociologist Timothy Dowd for the music and logo.
