Very happy to announce that I won a Marie Curie fellowship last year, and will be heading to Nottingham @uonphilosophy.bsky.sociall! My project 'Imperfect perception' will look at the experiences of sensory impairments and dysfunctions. Excited to start 😊

This week we're playing a game: how many of these couches can I see whilst viewing flats to rent in the UK?
A black, shiny, plasticky couch. Found in virtually every furnished flat to rent in the UK.

When I was 7 someone accidentally hit me with a beach ball pretty hard while I was in the water, and as I re-surfaced I exclaimed 'Thanks!', so maybe I win.

Ahaha I use a dell I bought used after using a mac as my first laptop. Actually fine with updates, it's everything else that doesn't compare, sadly.

Ah, yes, 'betwixt'. Non-native speakers' well-known key problem.

Then I discovered that there is in fact no instructions to play this 840 times! It's actually a conditional. "In order to play the motif 840 times in succession, it would be advisable to prepare oneself beforehand, and in the deepest silence, by serious immobilities." Shall we tell the guy?

Was there for the end bit of this somewhat mad performance of *840 repetitions* of Satie's very short 'Vexations', 14 hours or so. Pianist was visibly suffering, but the piece is weirdly compelling once you repeat it enough youtu.be/cPqIULsfOAU (too long for youtube, apparently!)

If you have a little time, take a walk to Burg Wetter for a pretty view of the Harkortsee. If you have a litte more time, the village of Hattingen is very cute and with a coule nice cafes.

Ponderosa pine smells like butterscotch.

Go ahead, sniff one the next time you're in the western US. Some say "vanilla", some say "oh no, my nose is covered in sap."

Let's talk about birds, butterscotch, forest fires, blue wood, & boring beetles.

But mostly this thread is about terpenes.
From a blog called "CreationsDawn", a photo of the author smelling a ponderosa pine. The author wears a green cap, light blue-green shirt and red camel pack. They are sniffing a tree with pine bark, with a sort of red-orange color. More trees in the background.

I don't have a flat in Notts yet, but I do have membership of a table tennis club and a list of 9 coffee shops to try. Priorities.

Same, same. Sometimes, more specifically: 'I could be in an onsen bath right now'.

To brighten up your Sunday, let me introduce you to Stenokranio Boldi, an early amphibian recently discovered in Germany. This is the only image we have to know what it looked like:
Rendering of ancient amphibian Stenokranio Boldi. It looks funny: has a flat, rounded head, with a huge smiley mouth.

I won't comment on the procrastination trait.

Everyone in the comments here thinks it's earlier, so maybe not the minority at all!

I can see that. I think on my image both events and people equally move on the timeline.

It's looking like I'm the only person who thinks like the author of the video ahaha

How do you understand 'going forward', though? Yeah it's no correctness debate, it'd be cool if it refelcted different spatial metaphors for time though.
giuliamartina.bsky.social
Yes, 'going forward' fits my metaphor!
