“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

Somewhat amusing to see ppl be like "saying flag *burning* is legal is a moot point bc they're talking about making flag *desecration* illegal, not burning specifically" only for Trump to immediately clarify that he does, in fact, mean flag burning specifically

Description makes it seem like it only works for a handful of compatible controllers, like the ProGCC v3? I guess controllers which directly support a "passthrough" cable like that

Saw a couple that were like "accepting remote workers (but you have to be located in the same city as our studio for some reason)"

Oregon National Guard Adjutant General, General Gronewold says if they are federalized, that he will advise the Title 10 commander to utilize National Guard Troops to PROTECT protesters at ICE facilities. This is the right answer.

Just noticed that the icon for the "potato" setting on my microwave is popcorn, and the icon for the "popcorn" setting is.... a potato.

Naturally.

Meanwhile in CG renders like film/TV/etc, these same lighting models are used but because they can use full raytraced reflections it's much easier to make them look right compared to games.
glairedaggers.bsky.social
This is far more realistic, but also tends to be way more obvious when the reflections in a game aren't set up right (which ends up requiring lots of manual effort on the part of artists to correct)
glairedaggers.bsky.social
Hah
PBR referring to "physically based rendering"

Basically the modern shading models employed by most game engines & games puts a high degree of emphasis on the fact that every surface is reflective, using a simple "roughness" value to distinguish between shiny vs rough surfaces.
glairedaggers.bsky.social
But in a raytraced renderer, everything kind of "just works" instead.

Now theoretically this is the gap that raytracing hardware fills, except it turns out our state of the art really isn't quite there yet so as of now that gap remains unfilled.
glairedaggers.bsky.social
It's a bit of the uncanny valley thing. The more you work to make your shading models act realistically in a game, the more obvious it is when other parts of your pipeline are breaking the laws of physics (like your reflection probes)
glairedaggers.bsky.social
Having used PBR shading in many contexts, I now feel like PBR ends up having a *much* higher level of work you have to do in order to make it look good in games, but conversely a much *lower* level of work required to make it look good in a raytraced renderer like Cycles.

I'm at least aware of that mechanic, but it's very similar to the way Blue Shells work in MK and about as difficult to pull off in my experience.

The fact that there's, effectively, multiple items in CW that are nearly as dangerous as the Blue Shell feels a bit odd to me
glairedaggers.bsky.social
At least if you're not in 1st you get a little more time to see it coming and potentially drift out of the way just in time, since it's not locked onto you.

If you're in 1st you're just kinda shit outta luck though
glairedaggers.bsky.social
You can, but it's hard to pull off in my experience.

To put things in perspective: the most dangerous item in Mario Kart is the blue shell. It has the same mechanic, where a well-aimed blue or green shell can break it.

This is a bit like CW having *multiple* blue shell level items in it.

Me: "Hey game can I get any items to defend my 1st place position against, say, Boos or Monster Trucks?"

Game: "Best I can do is boost wisp"
glairedaggers.bsky.social
It leads imho to a *lot* more situations where you just get crapped on by other players' items with no possible recourse. I know it's a kart racer, and that's kind of part of the genre, but it really reduces things down to luck of the draw more often than I'd like
glairedaggers.bsky.social
In Mario Kart, there's a ton of items where you can defend against it by just literally holding an item behind you.
This same mechanic doesn't exist in CrossWorlds, so instead you just have to hope you've got one of a tiny handful of defense items onhand.
glairedaggers.bsky.social
I think my big critique of CrossWorlds is that there's a *lot* of items that just have very few ways to defend against them.

I’m pretty annoyed. I’m gonna be without my computer (my only way to make money) for another week and a half, minimum, because of shipping time and repair time. Ugh I’m already lagging financially as it is. I hate to ask for help again, but if anybody wants to help: ko-fi.com/amtrax
