What to grow in January? This month we have recommendations from @Glasgow Seed Library. They recommend using open pollinated seeds, which you can get from companies such as Seeds of Scotland, Real Seeds, Tamar Organics or Vital Seeds.

2 weeks ago we launched the 4th edition of the Glasgow Sustainable Food Directory with Slow Food Glasgow at a fully booked event hosted in Five March. It was amazing to see so many sustainable food venues, suppliers & public attending the event! You can see the new directory here lnkd.in/gx9xDBQE

Couple of weeks ago we said Farewell to our Good Food Movement Co-Ordinator Thalia Groucott. Before she left we visited 3 projects in Govan - 'Dig In' community shop selling a good variety of fruit & vegetables, 'Grub Hub' catering for the community and 'Moogety Garden' run by Urban Roots Roots.

Thanks to Sasha from St Paul's Youth Forum and those who braved the drizzly weather for making our tour on Tuesday such a great event.

It was fantastic to hear about all of St Pauls' different growing projects, exchange ideas and advice between projects, and meet the chickens!

The Wester Common Unity Market is back on the 18th October between 10am and 2pm so get down to support a new initiative working to make fruit and veg more readily accessible for all!

What's in season in October and what should you plant?

Garlic should be planted before the frost but in late autumn or early winter so that it can grow during a cold period that will help bulb formation.

You can harvest it from May to August, and it stores well!

The below photos show meals made with Scottish venison that after culling has been purchased and butchered together by a deer share group here in Glasgow. This is a more affordable and low carbon way of accessing local meat.

Huge thanks to Alma of Alma's Mexican who cooked up not 1 but 2 delicious bean recipes!

Jenny led a creative session thinking about our favourite bean dishes and festive traditions which include beans.
