Cream of vegetable soup with garden herbs, made completely out of leftover veggies in my fridge's salad drawer + handful of lentils & a random selection from my container herb garden. Delish 😋 & cost pennies. Loads left over for freezer.

Another big birthday milestone has reminded me that time will not wait for me to start learning an ancient art that has always fascinated me, with its cross-cultural history stretching back millennia.

Great gift from my daughter, accompanied by a beautiful tarot deck. 👇

Ready for Storm Floris outside & inside.

Taken down hanging baskets, removed window boxes & taken delphinium to a place of safety.

Oil lamp & thumb stick/candle aren't just decorative, both fully working.

Mobile power bank fully charged.

I love the restorative effects of a very simple craft project at the kitchen table.
This morning, I turned my most beautiful birthday cards into bookmarks, while waiting for the washing cycle.
Now I can continue to enjoy them every time I turn the page.

Guess whose birthday it is?
I'm one lucky old bird, here in the bosom of my family in west Wales.

Worked out how this weekend without politics is doing me so much good.
Wittering on about test match cricket, garden & family stuff is either ignored (by the majority of people) or gently acknowledged by like-minded folk.

Potential for hostility in any sort of political posts is so exhausting.

Doing well with my politics-free weekend.

A damp chilly start to the day has reminded me it's never too early to start planning how to over-winter my delphiniums

Focusing on boosting my mental health, embarking on a politics-free weekend.

#3GoodThings

1. Slept well after lovely couple of hours visiting daughter in post-op recovery.

2. Foraged in depths of deep freeze & found enough meals for the weekend. Mostly still in date.

3. Yellow begonia

How beautiful. I love Salvia Hot Lips. My elderly specimen is at the back of this shot - looking nearly ready for its annual prune.

Im sure you can imagine what I went through to make this with OH? Both Autie with OCD tendencies. It goes full length of stairs, several exhausting days but worth the effort 😊

Well they would, wouldn't they?

It's time to harvest the sage while it's at its best & hang it to dry in the kitchen while we're away at the caravan

Have started the hanging herb garden with containers adorning my railings (which clearly need painting!)
Oregano; rosemary; thyme; lavender; mint; chives & basil seeds planted in chive pot.
Parsley is planted in a cooler shadier spot at the back of the house.

Another little slice of Yorkshire heritage that's too good not to share. Hellifield railway station North Yorkshire (1880) still has its original Refreshment Room on the platform, still serving lovely home made food for not very much money.

Here's a rooster for you by Ai Weiwei. Beautiful installation of his 12 animals of the zodiac when it was exhibited at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, 2 years ago.

Bit of a timeline cleanse.
The flagged front of my little stone cottage (with its original Victorian York stone) is gradually turning into a container garden & right now, we're loving the rain.

Really love batch cooking, because I can do it when I'm in the mood & it's a lifesaver on those days (more & more) when I'm not in the mood to cook. It also helps my mission to cut the cost of living. These are meat ones, but we have 3 days/week meat-free now, which also helps reduce costs.

Lockdown project from my archive - the perfect shady retreat for a hot sunny day. I'm busy renovating it as it's become a bit overgrown.

Felt moved to share this again today. Thinking of my darling girl who passed over the rainbow bridge five years ago now.
