I really second this. I've struggled with depression most of my adult life and working out has helped eliminate, honestly, like 80% of that. From the very first day. Getting yourself all exhausted makes rest easier and makes your brain do good chemical things. I wasn't a believer but it really works

I really appreciate the support and interest in this project over the years, and I hope it won't disappoint. We all want to create a masterpiece and ultimately maybe it's not up to us. But I'll release this when I know I've put everything I possibly can into trying. And that'll be enough for me.

I still need several things before we're ready to release. Some QoL and some extra polish here and there. A cool trailer. Then I'm just gonna sit on it for a month or two - forget about it - then come back and see if it's still good. I'm thinking it'll be out sometime between December and March.

Designing these dual-utility obstacles in a game engine with limited elements to begin with hasn't been easy - but it's always been creatively rewarding when it finally works. It's looking like the speedrun will get harder and harder as the time gets close to sub-35 minutes. A sub-40 is great.

For advanced players, the game will hopefully be an enduring speedrun challenge for years to come. I've labored long over the speed strats - optimizing everything I can to add as many slight time-saves as possible. The casual run does it the easy way - the speedrun does a cool trick. That's the idea

I've really been going for 'magnum opus' territory with this, and it's the longest I've ever worked on a ROM hack project. I promised myself I'd never cut a corner, never shrug and say "eh it's good enough". If it wasn't good enough it had to be redone no matter the cost of time or energy.

This game will have the full 20 levels, and at last count contains over 80 checkpoint sections. Some amazing custom graphics from TheBourgyman and some absolute code wizardry from CircleFriendo as well as others.

So many things were edited, polished, or deleted entirely and rebuilt. It's been wild.

I've been working on Return to Subcon 2: The Nova Project for about 8 years now. It's finally "done". That is - all levels constructed, decorated, playtested, revised, and tested again. Some QoL things and color pallets still need implemented, as well as a special surprise. Some minor spoilers below
