But really. I was banned from writing press releases because apparently you shouldn’t start them with “what the fuck is wrong with you?”

With out social media I would never have been able to gather international support for a local non discrimination ordinance. But I did and it passed and we made history. I could also point to DADT, ENDA, ACA repeal and the DREAMERS as examples of the power of social media and community.

My life is organizing. That’s what I do. As I said, the reach I’ve had would be impossibly with out social media.

I will not abandon the community I’ve built. Now more than ever we have to recognize that community isn’t always in person and go to where the people are. Some of my favorite people are ones I will never meet who I interact with on line only.

. Hell, a social media post in October 2009 changed the course of our family’s lives and introduced me to hundreds and hundreds of you.
Community is going to be how we survive, how we resist, how we fight back. We have to be able to connect with the on line and real world communities we have worked
