An ok Aurora down in South Wales, I only had my iPhone but it did a decent job of capturing the aurora and the sub auroral band. Venus and Jupiter were so bright in the sky this evening. Beautiful skies now, but so tired from last night for new years! #astrophotography

The dust on my star tracking mount contributes to my daily guilt quota when leaving my office space. As much as I can blame the inclement Welsh weather, I really haven’t been motivated this past year. I’ve biased a regular sleep schedule instead. I do wonder how others cope, I never found a balance.

The Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters or Messier 45 (M45), is a famous open star cluster located in the constellation Taurus. While it is primarily known as a star cluster, it is surrounded by a reflection nebula. This reflection nebula is composed of interstellar dust that reflects the light from the hot, young stars in the cluster. The blue color of the nebula is due to the scattering of shorter-wavelength blue light, much like the Earth’s sky appears blue because of Rayleigh scattering. Interestingly, the nebula was not formed from the same molecular cloud as the stars of the Pleiades. Instead, the cluster is currently passing through a region of interstellar dust, which makes the reflection nebula visible.
