That punishment box is owned by the American people. The same people who pay the salaries of those sent to round up immigrants and throw them in camps to be tortured.

Liberals are not to blame for what conservatives do. But elected officials are responsible for making sure that the system is capable of fending off threats to democracy.

Between dropping the charges against Eric Adams (who took funding out of Turkey) and Henry Cuellar (who worked as an agent for Azerbaijan), Trump is tossing the doors as wide open as possible to foreign regimes trying to buy off American politicians.

The signal is impossible to miss.

The only 2 acceptable responses are “disapprove” and “I just woke up from a decade-long coma. Anything interesting happen?”

Everything else is a sign that something is wrong.

Do you take the repeated annexation threats, influence ops, and economic warfare as evidence that we’ve done enough?

Chances are good that before this is over they’ll get emboldened or desperate. Either will affect their tolerance for risk.

The goal isn’t necessarily to win a war against the US, but to make it not worthwhile for them to start one.
