I'd like to ask you for the receipts on this one. Every square tablet you see in contrast is like $600 for the hardware, their POS system takes 2.8%+$0.30 *on top* of the card interchange fees, and they still have monthly subscriptions of like $36/mo. Is a cash register really more than all that?

at the risk of saying the obvious, dropping your indices before inserting then re-applying them after should help for giganto inserts. idk about mysql but you might be able to turn off transaction logging for the table too which cuts out a lot of write ops

I think the craziest part about that coding exercise for rogue/nethack is that game is what like, 256kb of RAM too? the tricks they must've used back then to fit it all always makes for cool stories
