Trump is trying to bully states into excluding students, but some state leaders are pushing back.

Shortly after Gov. Mills and Trump got into a heated exchange, the U.S. Department of Education said it would investigate Maine and the Cumberland-North Yarmouth school district for allowing a transgender athlete to compete in the girls track state finals last weekend.

Trump has relied on executive orders to intimidate institutions - like hospitals and schools - to adopt trans-exclusionary policies. As trans youth assert their rights, the courts are showing that Trump's orders are all bark and no bite.
“Good and decent parents of transgender kids should never be in the frightening position of having their child’s prescribed, medically necessary care canceled at the whim and threat of a politician,” said Brian K. Bond, CEO of @pflag.org.

Linda McMahon was before a Senate committee today. She's nominated to be the next Secretary of Education, the federal official responsible for enforcing civil rights laws in schools.

Students need a champion who will fight for their future, not a crony who will work to dismantle their protections.
