I love trans and queer art and I want (and believe we deserve) good art, breathtaking insightful astonishing creative experimental art that stands the test of time. You can't get that without critique!

And you know, on a personal note, this is one of the reasons I worry about how my art will be received as a trans artist: I'm not interested in being handled with kid gloves because of my identity, I want it to stand (or fall) on its own merits. It's insulting to act otherwise.

The Ao3ification of art continues to be a cultural disaster. Criticism of a work is not a personal attack. It's one thing to play nice when everyone's an amateur, but the second you start charging money for your art, or wanting to be taken seriously as a professional, it's a different ballgame.

I... think you just unlocked why I watched this movie obsessively as a kid. Haha fuck.

gleefully read and write stories where men are brutally victimized by other men for entertainment purposes, with nary a thought about domestic violence statistics in queer relationships. Makes one feel a bit subhuman, tbh! (2/2)

Yes. Thank you. I can think of many, many highly-popular m/m books/series/fanfics that are extremely violent and rapey. I don't even object to that on principle, but it feels incredibly bad to see the same people who can't stand to have anything bad happen to a fictional woman (1/2)

Thank you so much!

Exactly. And fwiw, my partner was on injections and then switched to gel last year and is now getting the results they wanted, whereas gel didn't work for me at all. Bodies are weird!

I didn't see much in the way of changes/progress felt very slow for the first 4 years of being on T. Then I switched to injections and it hit me like a truck. My partner has been on T for 8+ years and is only just now getting facial hair. Like cooking, you gotta marinate to get real flavor.
