I found a church cookbook at the Brighton Library book sale this weekend. You know that those church cookbooks have real recipes that are usually the favorites of the people who submit them. I scanned this book for recipes compatible with a kosher kitchen. Pirate Stew did not disappoint!

Nerd alert! We just bought an extremely cool cordless microscope that we can use to image our retinoblastoma cells while they’re growing in the incubator. It can capture still images, videos and time-lapse. This is a game-changer. #microscope

It is with great sadness that I report on the sudden death of Duke the gerbil. This photo of Duke was just taken August 27th when he appeared bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Luke is understandably distraught. Burial will be tomorrow.

Duke the gerbil is on guard duty and watching out for dangerous animals (like me).

Ahh, yes, that looks familiar. Let’s see… my lab moved from ROC to BUF in 2001. While in BUF, we moved to another building in 2009, a bigger lab in 2019, flooded out to a temp lab in 2022, and moved to our present location in 2023. Each time, it was very disruptive. I’m hoping no more moves!

Luke the gerbil has glowing red eyes because he was born with the pink-eyed dilution gene (pp) that removes nearly all of the black pigment from his eyes. Isn’t he a cutie?
