I trust what Lex is saying that he is motivated by peace here. However his approach seems akin to asking a victim of abuse to find common ground with their abuser rather than encouraging setting and enforcing boundaries. It's a common instance of potentially harmful neutrality.

When I heard Lex say "we must start in the middle" I thought about how incredibly harmful neutrality can be when it's not balanced with ethical responsibility. I wonder how much Lex has reflected upon responsibility here.

Really highlights a problem w/ social media interviewers. They are often folks who haven't adequately wrestled with what their responsibility is to their community & as a result fail to gain the necessary expertise to avoid harm. They are often motivated by clicks and profit over public interest.

Nothing like an increase in resolution that is imperceptible to the human eye but definitely hurts my computers performance to get me in the holiday spirit.

I don't think the left needs any encouragement in this regard. In fact I think that part of why we are in this political moment is folks being to quick to alienate rather than educate.

I don't think he's arguing that people have to be trained before engaging in ethical discourse. I think he's saying that a lack of roots can lead to drifting around according to algorithmic influence.
