When you use the rhetorical language developed by your opponent, you give them power. Language shapes thought.

For context, this is the 2001 solo album of one of the session drummers on “Born to Run”. It is not on Discogs, but it is on S***ify.

Look at that cover. It’s /glorious/.

Gish by Smashing Pumpkins is a good album, and I like it.

After listening to this record a lot, I’m more sympathetic to the people who lumped Pumpkins in with grunge. It shares a lot of psychedelic revival DNA with Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, and hints at future arena-rock stardom.

Compact Jazz by Stephane Grappelli is a good compilation , and I like it.

Backwards-looking, slightly uninspired string jazz. Clean. Competent. Easy listening, but still genuine jazz.

Prokofiev Piano Concertos Nos. 1-5 is a good album, and I like it.

Maybe not a one-sitting album, but a dynamic, intuitive interpretation of some of the strangest and most difficult pieces in the classical piano repertoire.

The 2001 L.L.Bean christmas compilation is bad, but I like it.

They overshoot their intended rustic Maine aesthetic and land all the way back in the middle ages - but being an English peasant on Christmas is more my vibe, anyway.

Danello, the Sad Surfer self-titled is a good album, and I like it.

Exactly what it says on the tin: bright surf rock with deeply depressing lyrics. Shades of early Real Estate, Weezer at times.

If that weren’t indignity enough, it also sounds like ass. No bottom end. Bad overdubs. Every song starts and ends with a fearfully shrill trumpet solo. Every note is unsure and awkward, and the mix does it no favors at all.

The cover on this CD was printer paper, glued onto a generic Sony CD-ROM. When I popped this bad boy into the CD player in my car, the glue melted as it spun. The paper cover caught in the changer mechanism and absolutely destroyed the unit. It cost $300 to remove and would cost $1000 to replace.

Little did I know that beneath the roughshod surface lay a gleaming malice, a knowing and conscious hatred. This album hated me back, and my CD player paid for it with its life.

I found it in a pile of CDs given away by an old woman - mostly airbrushed vocal pop, celtic new age, and Christmas music. It’s delightfully amateurish graphic design pulled me in.

This album ruined my life, and I hereby declare my undying enmity for the people of Zanzibar.
