it's such a big contrast to the anime how much cuter gesicht is in the manga.... I already thought he was moe in the adaptation but urasawa just draws him with this friendly roundedness especially early on within vol 1

at least then they would learn how to draw a man past their 20s (ignoring the same bishonen face urasawa always does for his twinks)

from how long it has been in production hell, it probably had a bumpy ride (it was announced like 5-4 years before it was put on netflix) and some parts were the money shots, others... well others you can tell were made with very generic consideration of the story IMHO

Compared to this the pluto stage play cut out a lot but seemingly for a reason as they used the media of theater to retell the story on the stage in an unique way

And like you said, it would have been interesting if they used the media of animation to show off Why atom feels more humanistic compared to gesicht, or the unstability of brau1589 who barely buzzes even though he constantly does in the manga. But no?

Like ultimately the focus of pluto is on gesicht most of the time instead of atom, who is a unbombastic, lowkey character compared to the other 7 yet he feels more hardass and serious due to how the adaptation handles him

Yeah, especially compared to how nice the more grounded, pastel-like palette of the monster ani adaptation was, and that kind of direction I feel like would've fit pluto too? Or something that didn't concentrate on the very scarce action scenes

I KNOWWW I feel like the anime skimming over the small details, and trying to cram the story into this format loses me when compared to the manga (I also think visually the anime can look ugly djjdjdjdh I don't like its clean style or how you can tell that its action scenes got the budget)

It also manages to still cut things, honestly important things out of the plot to fit the time. Nobody will fucking know what the tharcia roosevelt bear is if you cut out its exposition which meant to explain that!

and then like. what is the thing that keeps gesicht consult brau1589 more than anyone else by the time he cracks the case. what is the thing which makes brau kill himself but save the earth that wasn't present in atom before. connections between lines.

that is where compelling stuff comes in because the give and take here is not worth it enough for gesicht to come back I feel like, yet he returns, always due to curiousity but that changes over time. slowly that professional curiousity turns to personal
