Snow day! Sort of - work from home day, anyway.
Some trees and bushes, covered in snow. A little stone bird feeder, nearly buried in snow, has a "hat" of about 5" of snow. It is still dark outside.

Very pleased with my mantle this year.
A fireplace mantle with a pine garland draped over the top. There are two burgundy velvet stockings on the left, in front of two clear glass tall candle holders with silver glitter around the rims. There is a green and red ceramic Christmas bulb (that is really a candy dish) in front of the garland in the center, and then a grapevine five pointed star flanked by two twisty candles - one burgundy and one green - on the right. Some gray-green eucalyptus leaves are tucked into the garland, and some white ceramic bells hanging from the garland over the front of the mantle. There are also a few small ornaments tucked into the garland. All tarted up for Christmas, as is proper.

Our dinner this year
An oval table, covered in a grey and white checked cloth, set for seven adults and one baby. The dinner plates are grey, and each place has a goblet of red "punch" 😉 There are many serving dishes on the table filled with baked sweet potatoes with a pecan crust, creamed corn (homemade), green bean casserole, dressing,v turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and two kinds of cranberries - the jelly from a can and some homemade cranberry sauce with jalapenos. Not pictured are the croissants.

🚨🚨🚨BABY SQUIRREL UPDATE🚨🚨🚨
A not-so-little-anymore squirrel on one side of the trunk of a split cottonwood tree. He is gauging whether or not it is safe to come down and get a peanut. A not-so-little-anymore squirrel is perched on a branch of the same cottonwood tree, eating a peanut. This one is a little braver than the other and is not bothered by me being on the porch at all.

Hi Flo! I have been using this recipe for 30+ years and it never fails. See alt text for tips
Banana Nut Bread Recipe 1/2 cup shortening (I use unsalted butter) 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 1 cup mashed, ripe bananas 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional) 2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt Cream shortening & sugar together until light & fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Stir in mashed bananas and mix well. Add nuts if using. Sift dry ingredients together and stir in (to wet ingredients). Pour into a greased (8 or 9 inch) loaf pan and bake at 350° F for 40 minutes (usually takes between 40-50 minutes. Bread is done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

My beautiful Saturn ❤️ 2003-2020
My darling Saturn, a silver tabby cat, who died in 2020. In the photo just her head and part of her body is visible. She is gazing away from the camera. The planet Saturn is visible in her pupil. She was THE MOST beautiful girl, and she loved me something fierce (if she thought you were upsetting me she would bite you.) My son edited this photo for me after she died.
