There’s a lot of subjectivity involved in selecting the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. These folks do not like to be pressured. There’s a distinct chance they really will give it to Greta Thurnberg. At the very least, they will give it to someone that will piss off Trump. Could be fun!

Rules on Discharge Petitions:

Once it has 218 signatures, it goes on a calendar for 7 working days. then, if a signatory calls it, they have to vote within 2 working days.

Theoretically, they could re-convene, take a few votes, then recess again before the deadline.

Sooner or later the House will have to re-convene. At that point, they have to swear her in. This is all part and parcel delaying the release of the Epstein files until after the mid-terms

Trump has two goals for the Epstein files:

1 - never release them

2 - If #1 isn’t possible, delay the release until after the mid-terms.

This explains why Lil’ Moses won’t re-convene the House until he absolutely has to. And then he may convene, take 1-2 quick votes, and then recess again.

The pubbers could end the shutdown by repealing the filibuster, aka the “nuclear option”. Problem is, they have used the filibuster on many CR’s in the past and they don’t want to lose that weapon.

Abbot has announced he will call up 400 Nat Guard troops for deployment to Chicago, which is a helluva thing considering that there’s a real chance those troops won’t get paid on the 15th.

Stephen Miller talks about terrorism in the US, but the closest we have to terrorism is the daily, random mass shootings in schools, churches, etc. Republicans, however, are adamant about not doing anything to prevent these shootings.

She’s right, and it complicates the stalemate in the Senate. Pubs can’t make a deal that changes the CR; if they do, it goes back to the House and Lil’ Moses will have to re-convene. If that happens he has to swear in the new member, and THAT means the petition passes.

Also, the flintlock rifle was very finicky and tricky to use. Think Windows 95. It took a lot of experience to handle one, and if you didn’t have the experience you couldn’t help the militia. Things are a little different today.
