We don't like being in the spotlight, but sometimes we accept in hopes that we can shine a light on the organizations we support and encourage others to think about their own philanthropy. Thank you, Amy Scherzer and Tampa Bay Times for the article.

Let's re-visit the epic saga that is our new front door. We had all our downstairs doors and windows replaced this year. They were ordered in December of 2024. They were installed in May of 2025 (after delays), but the front door arrived damaged and had to be reordered. We were told August 1/?

I get it, you're busy. But, you run a business. I'm paying you. I expect communication. At a bare minimum I expect you to either show up when you say, or call to tell me you need to reschedule. I have fired too many companies for things that could have been prevented if they'd just communicated.

Hello people of the world. I'd like to take a moment to inform you of the experience I'm having with The Shade Store. We've spent a lot of money with them over the years and up until now never really had a problem with them repairing something if it broke. One of our shades (which is very large) 1/?

So they finished on Saturday. Inspection passed yesterday. Now they just need to replace the door that arrived damaged. They said that’ll be August. 19/19

They are here. Doors are looking better. Will have to deal with gaps between doors and baseboards. Some may have been created by their team but I can't be sure. I hate this. Why is it that projects like this snowball. Why can't the contractors just be up front on what the results/impact will be.18/?

And of course. The inspector never showed. 17/?

Side note. Getting a quote from a painter. He quotes the inside and the outside separately. But he separated the inside and the outside of the new doors. WTF? Because I might just want to paint the outside? Or just the inside? I get making it all line-itemed, but that's just stupid.

Follow up on Day 7- He spent the day finishing on the outside and cleaning it up. They'll be back on Saturday to finish. Luckily, the inspection will happen tomorrow. That means they can address anything if anything is found. If nothing is, fingers crossed it'll be 100% done on Saturday. 16/?

Day 7- The one guy here took it well, considering I think he thought he would have an easy day. He of course needs to call it in to see what the boss wants to do. 15/?

Some pictures to demonstrate. Looked it up, it should be consistent and 1/8-1/4 of an inch all around.
May 21, 2025 at 12:18 PM
To top it all off they are trying to gaslight us and lie to us. This is why I take pictures each day. Luckily I caught the one that shows they lied. Tomorrow they get to redo all the inside trim. 13/?

Day 6-back to 3 guys. It’s become apparent they don’t have a finish carpente. The inside trim work is all sorts of wrong. It’s inconsistent door to door. even on a single door there will be an inch of “return” (the name for the box the door sits in) showing at the top and 1/4 inch on the sides. 12/?

Day 5-half day. 2 crews. More done they still run out of materials and don’t get to the inside trim. 11/?
May 21, 2025 at 1:41 AM
Day 4- Even more guys. Everything is "installed" but we notice the trim issue. They run out of material for exterior trim. They need to find a match to our "custom" trim. They don't know when they'll be back. They ask for 80% of the remaining balance. 10/?

Day 1- They got 3 doors done (mostly). Day 2- Same 3 guys. Some windows and another door. Day 3- A lot more guys. Someone pees on the floor and uses the hand towel to clean it up. We realize 2 door are swapped.

They'd now mised the 4 month window we had before we wouldn't be available. We scheduled for after that. We are told it'll take 5 to 7 days. They show up. Day 1- 3 guys to do 19 windows and 8 doors. A door is damaged. They've ordered a new one. 4-6 weeks (guess). They're scheduled for 4 days. 8/?

Wait? What? I thought you had everything? Nope. We're reaching out and someone will call Friday to let you know what's going on. I have them an additional week and sent an email to the boss. He apologized, told me when it would be in, and offerred to pre-schedule. 7/?

When I brought this up, it was like I tossed a grenade in their truck. I already had issues with "manufacturing". This order was placed in December. I didn't hear from them until March when I reached out and asked when everything would be in. 5/? (sorry, forgot to # ).
