Oligarchs are not job creators, they’re shareholder profit creators. If they can eliminate jobs and increase profit (while also lowering risks associated with human employees) then they will absolutely do so, with gusto.

The USSR (and now Russia) hasn’t been communist since the 1920’s. And hasn’t even been properly socialist for decades - it’s been a mafioso style dictatorship since Putin consolidated power and sold all the revenue generating industries to friends of his in exchange for loyalty and a 50% take.

Mellon’s donation was clearly not intended to “pay the troops” - even if the money really goes to the troops, it would amount to about $100 per service member, less admin costs and taxes. It’s clearly corruption of some kind. Rachel will figure it out.

I think it’s worse than this. Trump has always wanted to be popular, even beloved, and he hates anyone who was more popular or beloved than him. Hence his obsession with Kennedy and Obama. (Obama being black makes it even worse).

Just wait until they not only don’t change their statements when caught lying, but arrest the person who sends them (or posts) photos catching them in a lie - that’s a full-on authoritarian dictatorship. And by then it will be too late to unwind.

Trump is moving toward full authoritarian control much more quickly than the public (or the media) seems to recognize. If you read any history book, keeping your head down and pretending this won’t affect you doesn’t work. It’s time to get off the sofa and into the street.
