If I wrote "In some cases, people consider it unsafe," in a story about literally anything, my editor would comment "Who considers it unsafe? Is there any basis for their claims?"

It's blatant editorializing. No serious news organization would allow it - except NYT.

The nyt may have thought it was being glib when it led a post-election story by casting all trans ppl as insufferable whiners.

But contempt has consequences: service members lost their jobs and benefits; young trans athletes were ruthlessly attacked; our identification documents were tossed away.

I mean, I can write this in NYTese "While activists say the safety of women athletes is their primary concern, diving is notably not a contact sport. The harassment of a trans diver who stopped competing after freshman year would not seem to have any clear connection to the movements stated goals."
