Good morning.
Jabiru baby with parent in the background. A week ago. Found them again yesterday, but too far off to get a decent shot.
Happy Friday.

A bar-tailed godwit at Bald Hill Beach.
These migratory waders undertake the longest non-stop flight of any bird.
These are my favourite shorebirds.
Look at that crazy bill!
Fun fact: They can actually bend their bills.

U.S. military spending is set to hit a record $1 trillion.

Roughly half of defense spending goes to private contractors that routinely price-gouge the government.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has failed EIGHT straight audits.

This is the military industrial complex on steroids.

These busy little shorebirds don't migrate so, during the winter months when most others have gone, you can usually still find these darting along the water's edge.

Four days into 2026 and I have a lifer!
I had heard about a Latham's snipe being at a local wetland area so went to see if I could find it. Found two! Only 20 minutes from home too.
Very hard to see in the reeds and at a distance.
(Lifer: Birder talk for the first time you see a bird species.)

Note: I used a 500 mm lens with a 2x extender attached and this photo is cropped. So I was not close enough to bother this bird. And I didn't stay long.
