I've found that I heavily value the concept and thematic idea of a game. If it's an idea I absolutely love the concept of, I'll push myself through a lot of friction.

If it's a game with core concepts I don't find exciting, I'm way more likely to drop the game after frictional design.

How is this over double the price of the centerpiece model to my Ogre Kingdoms army?

And it's going to sell incredibly well. The current state of "collectible" hobbies is incredibly depressing.

I guess my point is that I personally feel like I've seen this kinda distrust and paranoia with the community in games like mtg as well, I didn't feel like it was a yugioh specific thing.

But other player's experiences seem to be saying otherwise, and it's really shitty if there's racist undertones

This is totally fair, it just wasn't a stereotype I've heard in any card game community before!

And Ive heard mtg players that try Warhammer and say "wow, you can just leave your army on the table without worrying someone is trying to steal it?"

I'm in multiple card game spaces, and I've genuinely never heard this about YGO players

maybe you're conflating the common YGO experience of getting ripped off as a kid? YGO was the first card game for a lot of kids, and kids are prone to getting ripped off by older players.

I think this aspect is at its worst on replays.

I naturally missed some companions on my first run, and it's way easier to just explore when your brain isn't telling you "I should just get all the companions first because it's strictly better."

Dammit man, the devs in owlcat and larian made the games that got me back into crpgs :/

I didn't expect myself to become a retro gamer at 30 years old, but there are countless classics I haven't tried and none of them were built using AI generated assets.

I feel like we talk about "whales" in addictive games without acknowledging a lot of whales aren't rich. So many are people prone to these addictive systems, and it's kinda fucked to throw them into the wood chipper to make a tcg more accessible.

This is pee pee bad-news. Hearing about the use of AI in development while hyping up the amount of content in the game is such a AAA move :/

Just speaking as a viewer, but I kinda hate the A/B testing. Seeing a creator using it turns me off of watching the video, it feels like it incentivizes more clickbait and it sucks feeling like you're being blatantly marketed to.

I'm kinda horrified of this. I have grieving older family members that might legitimately go to this in desperation.

It's like the manipulation and abuse of "psychics" being brought further into the mainstream.

maybe dark souls would've been better if Patches was in my head quipping and adding context every time I encountered something new?

Bloodlines 2 also went with this approach and it's baffling lol.
November 14, 2025 at 4:44 PM
Damn, I've had a ton of friends loving their time with the game and I doubt this was known.

It was like this with The Finals and it's tragic. I don't have it in me to play a game using AI.

it's so painful being a LoL player since 2012. Riot's monetization has declined rapidly over the past 5-6 years by leaning hard into exploitative design.

how many champs do you start with on launch?

Using an AI image to relate to something you do doesn't even work lol. It's funny when someone finds a reaction and puts it into a different context, it's not funny when you create an image exactly for the thing you're describing.

Bad for the environment and humor I tell ya.

the dialogue abbreviations are a force of evil I swear it. sometimes it feels like the dialogue is purposely trying to surprise me based on what I chose lol.

Halo 1, I used to be so protective of my "buddies" not dying so I had AI companions making me feel safe :'D

It's still incredible in setting a tone with its art direction.

I definitely prefer commander, I respect limited but building my own deck is a core aspect of the fun of card games for me. And tbh, I don't consider deck building fun and I don't want it to be part of the gameplay.

I'm not a fan of drafting/deck building board games so I guess it makes sense :'D

The hostility of time pressure is one of the single biggest reasons I stopped playing yugioh unless it's with friends.

I get nervous and need to rethink under pressure.... Which only gets worse when I know that my opponent is counting every second. New rules make it even more hostile sadly :/

I have been in the past, but no to both of those things. I've always been poor and played yugioh on a budget during the 2010s. Built up thunder dragons and true Draco in 2019.

Both of my decks got banned out early 2020, and I've felt disillusioned with buying yugioh cards ever since.

I'll be honest, I haven't played yet because I know I'll stew in my head about the removal of any frictional design. And I've only played World and 3U :'D

Like I had a pretty good time with Avowed, but MAN does it feel designed to not scare away players that are easily frustrated.
