Collaboration telescope wrangler and talented astro-photographer Krzysztof Ulaczyk's latest visit to our Siding Spring Observatory seemed to focus more on our 8-legged cohabitants, but also captured this terrific panorama shot of the GOTO-South telescopes against the Milky Way

The routine all-sky survey of our GOTO telescopes at La Palma and Siding Spring uncover all sorts of unexpected objects, including comet C/2025 A6 in this nice image from October 4, spotted by Warwick U. team member @bendgodson.bsky.social. This object may be naked-eye visible later this month

Congrats to Natasha Van Bemmel on winning an MNRAS Student Prize. The MNRAS editors selected her first‑author paper, An Optically Led Search for Kilonovae to z~0.3 with KNTraP, as one of six best student‑led publications this year, what a debut!

#PPOD: Astronomers combined observations from three different observatories to produce this colorful, multiwavelength image of the intricate remains of Supernova 1987A. The central structure visible inside the ring in the Hubble image has now grown to roughly half a light-year across. 🧪 🔭

Breaking space news: We have made our own solar eclipse in space! 🌘

Today, we release the first images from our Proba-3 mission, which flies two spacecraft in precise formation to create artificial solar eclipses in orbit.

Collaboration members from Warwick University were on-site this month at GOTO-South, Siding Spring Observatory to perform some regular maintenance and install an all-sky camera, critical for remote monitoring of conditions. And not too bad for imaging the entire Milky Way.

It's #StrawberryMoon day! And before you scoff "but the full moon happens every month Catherine", this is the once-every-18.6-yr lunar standstill. In the Northern hemisphere the moon will rise just above the horizon (look S) before it dips back down again 1/🧵🧪🔭
