And that’s fine - I respect your right to use ai if you so choose - no matter how morally abhorrent I find it. However, that does mean that others have an equal right to express their displeasure - both to you and to tykables.

Even if you disagree, you can’t deny that the use of generative ai in our community is controversial. By platforming AI, you are making a conscious choice that you don’t care about the opinions of the people who are upset. You know people will be upset and you are doing it anyway.

But you are using it. Just because you didn’t generate the image personally doesn’t mean you aren’t using it. By putting that up you are normalizing its use - knowing it’s harmful. Clearly people noticed and formed opinions about your event, or this conversation wouldn’t be happening.

I have known you for years - I know you want to do what is right by the community - but generative ai is not the answer. It’s incredibly toxic and harmful not only to our little corner of the world.

I encourage you to do some research on the executives at Chat GPT and their contributions to our current president (one of their executives is now Ts top donor), the impact of data centers on local community, the environmental impact, the risk to our democracy/misinformation. This isn’t harmless fun

Their most recent post on here from 2 months ago also is suspiciously ai generated. This doesn’t appear to be an isolated incident.

Maybe I am not in the same circles you are, but i haven’t seen anything hateful or viscous - just lots of disappointment and discussion of taking our business elsewhere. If that’s vicious then… I guess.

I will say, I replied to the email with my displeasure and did get a response that boiled down to “we won’t use generative ai in our designs, this was a separate contractor.” Still feels like a real apology to the Community it owed.

100%… this ai apologist behavior is really not it. If we don’t stand up to this now, it will signal to other companies this is acceptable and before you know it we have nothing left but slop.
